Natalie Doyle, BA Art and Design Education
Working predominantly with acrylic paint, my art is a reflection of the Abstract Landscape style, a journey that draws from my rural roots and a deep connection with nature. In a world filled with stress and anxiety, I seek comfort and solace in the natural world.
As I hike along mountain trails, I find respite from the relentless thoughts of an anxious mind. Nature provides both literal and figurative breathing room, a space to unravel and regain perspective. The cold embrace of the Irish sea, with its crashing waves, bestows a sense of calm and a renewed sense of control.
My artistic endeavor is to capture the essence of these experiences by translating the lines, shapes, and textures witnessed on my trails and adventures onto canvas. I use color as a tool to represent the abstract concept of anxiety. Bright and vibrant hues symbolize the intrusive nature of thoughts – not always negative, but not always welcome.
The sense of movement in my paintings mirrors the ceaseless rumination of anxious thoughts. For those who haven't experienced it, anxious rumination is a painful, never-ending loop that is incredibly challenging to break.
Through my work, I aim to emphasize the importance of self-care and the need for a mental health care plan. It's my hope that my art serves as a reminder of the healing power of nature and the significance of nurturing our mental well-being.
